Kiev (news) - Exports of sugar in Ukraine climbed between September 2011 and June 2012 on a 10-year high. Overall, the country exported 117 900 tonnes of sugar announced as the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UAC). The Ukraine is competitive, according to the UAC with its sugar production on the world market, because the climate favorable for the cultivation of sugar beets. Large companies would already make investments to reduce the sugar and sugar beet production further.
The price of sugar was in Ukraine last at 625 U.S. dollars per ton. The international price is more expensive at 650 dollars, which means sugar exports from Ukraine are attractive. The sugar industry in Ukraine is growing rapidly. According sugar online 2010 were still 1.54 million tons of sugar produced. 2011 there were 2.33 million tons of sugar. The annual sugar consumption in Ukraine is at 1.86 million tonnes. This results in an export potential yields of 470,000 tons.

The Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has recently stated that Ukraine exported a million tons of sugar per year and take up as one billion U.S. dollars would. Brazil currently exports about 18 million tons annually, representing 40 percent of the total volume of sugar in the world. The major exporting countries of Guatemala, India, South Africa and Cuba come to 1.2 to 1.5 million tons per year. Thus Ukraine would catch up with these important countries on.
